DataGlyphics Delivers Complete Upgrade of PCED Web Site
6/3/2002
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – DataGlyphics Inc. and Pinellas County Economic Development (PCED) today announced the launch of PCED's redesigned Web site – www.siliconbay.org. DataGlyphics conducted a complete upgrade and redesign to improve the site's Networking Directory, Event Calendar, Geographic Information System (GIS), streaming media capabilities and navigation.
DataGlyphics updated the site's Networking Directory with the new North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), which replaced the U.S. Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system. Now, the directory of Pinellas County businesses is searchable by NAICS codes and provides complete corporate descriptions and contact information. DataGlyphics also built a dynamic Event Calendar that allows PCED public partners (chambers of commerce and cities) to register, logon and post their events.
The site also features an updated GIS, called GIS Site Assistant, that enables visitors to search a combination of demographic and geographic data. GIS Site Assistant provides information about population demographics, business sites, municipal boundaries, political districts, and more that allows users to compare their business needs against the online database of County information.
"PCED and DataGlyphics designed this site to provide greater online services and information for residents and businesses considering a move or expansion within Pinellas County," said Mike Maruschak, business IT specialist with PCED. "DataGlyphics developed and hosted our previous site, which meant they had an understanding of our business needs. We also had a good understanding of DataGlyphics' capabilities and proven performance in development, design and hosting services."
As required by PCED, DataGlyphics also added streaming media to the new www.siliconbay.org. From the site's administrative back-end, PCED personnel now can upload audio and video clips of the department's Good Business Pinellas radio and television programs. Based on analysis of visitor usage patterns, DataGlyphics also modified site navigation to allow faster access to the popular Statistics and Forms section.
Bill Stover, CEO of DataGlyphics, said, "The first iteration of siliconbay.org was a great success – garnering awards from national and international economic development organizations. This new version is a logical evolution and continues to serve the community with important online demographic, geographic and business information. DataGlyphics worked closely with PCED on their initial public site and their Extranet, and it means a great deal to us that PCED continues to use DataGlyphics as their Web technology resource."
