PCED Site Honored by ACCRA

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Pinellas Council Economic Development was honored a second time in as many months for their Web site www.siliconbay.org. ACCRA, the producer of the Cost of Living Index, recognized the site, which incorporated the “Geographic Information Site Assistant,” as one of the outstanding creative and innovative economic development research projects at its 41st annual conference. DataGlyphics, Inc. of St. Petersburg is the developer and host of PCED’s award winning Web site. In May, siliconbay.org also received an Excellence Award from The American Economic Development Council.
ACCRA is a non-profit membership organization of more than 500 economic development research professionals from organizations across the U.S. and Canada. In this second year of the awards program, ACCRA received 23 nominations from organizations in eleven states and one Canadian province. “It was a very competitive process,” according to Ben Pickering, Research Manager for the Mississippi Department of Community and Economic Development and ACCRA’s Awards Committee Chair. “Each project easily qualified as a ‘best practice’ for our colleagues in community and economic development research. This process provides an important opportunity to recognize the innovation and creativity in the arena of applied economic development research,” according to Pickering.

The Board of County Commissioners and the County Administrator created Pinellas County Economic Development in late 1997. PCED’s mission is to retain existing businesses as well as attract new high-quality businesses that pay a living wage. The aim is to improve the business climate within the county by acting as a liaison between public and private sectors while facilitating the availability of a qualified workforce. The mission is accomplished through the initiatives of five sections in the Department: Business Assistance, Business Communication & Marketing, International Business Development, Business Recruitment, and Business Research.
